JEE-2013-Impact of JEE Mains-Advanced-JEE Replaces What

Why JEE, Its Impact and JEE Replaces What:

1. To create an umbrella or single entrance exam for all engineering aspirants in India.
2. Currently, India has 2500+ Engineering Colleges (Govt.+Private), resulting in over 50 different Entrance Examinations for admission into various Govt. & Pvt. Engineering colleges.
3. On an average a student appears in 5-‐6 entrance exams, thereby causing unnecessary stress on them as well as on parents.
4. Additionally, giving so many exams creates lot of financial burden for the parents since each examination involves expenses like Application Fee & commuting to appear for the entrance test in various cities/at various test centres.
5. Moreover, multiple exams also pose the challenge of preparing for different syllabi and patterns for students. This further increases the stress among students.

Impact of JEE:

JEE shall replace -

1. IIT-JEE, which till 2012 will be used for admissions into 15 IITs and IT-BHU, Varanasi & ISMU, Dhanbad, IISERs, Institutes of Maritime Studies, IISc etc.
2. AIEEE, which is used for admissions into 30 NITs, 5 IIITs & several central & Pvt./deemed Universities.
3. ISAT for admissions into IIST.
4. Admission Test for 3 Indian Statistical Institutes (ISI). State PETs for admissions into Govt./Pvt. Colleges of various states.

JEE-Main-Advanced Admission Forms 2013 from 01-Nov 2012

Application forms for the newly revised Joint Entrance Exam (Main), 2013 will be available online from November 1. There will be no sale of paper application forms. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which is conducting the exam in April next year, outlined additional details about exam last week in a fresh document.

The JEE (Main) will determine entry into National Institutes of Technology and centrally-funded engineering colleges, and will be the first stage exam for entry into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). More than 10 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the exam next year.

The CBSE has also organized 'facilitation centres' to help candidates fill up their forms online. A list of 43 centres across the country has been announced (see box) and more will be added over the course of the next few weeks.

"The candidates can avail services of these centres free of cost," said the new document. The JEE (Main) is replacing the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

The exam in offline mode will be held on April 7 next year. The dates for the online mode are yet to be announced.

The document further clarifies that blind candidates will be allowed the help of writers and an hour of extra time to write the paper.

The new document has also specified that a candidate will be allowed three consecutive attempts for the JEE (Main), and that the test will be an objective-type test with negative marking for incorrect answers.

Details of the syllabus are available on the CBSE website. The top 1.5 lakh candidates who clear the JEE (Main) will be able to sit for the JEE (Advanced), which will be conducted by the IITs.
